BENTON – An Ewing man is facing several charges after Benton Police pulled him over for not having an illuminated registration plate and a defective passenger taillight near the intersection of South Main and Williams Street Sunday night.

According to a Benton Police report, the driver was identified as 36-year-old Justin S. Forsythe.

A Franklin County K9 was called to the stop and indicated a positive alert. During the search of the vehicle, officers discovered a loaded handgun along with loose ammunition and a clear Ziplock bag of cannabis. A fraudulent driver’s license and Social Security card belonging to Forsythe was also discovered.

Forsythe was arrested and charged with Possession of Adult Use Cannabis in a Motor Vehicle, and Possession of Firearm without Requisite Firearm Owner’s I.D. Card, Possession of Firearm Ammunition without Requisite Firearm Owner’s I.D. Card, Unlawful Possession of a Fraudulent Driver’s License, and Unlawful Possession of a Fraudulent Identification Card.

Forsythe was taken to the Franklin County Jail.
