MT. VERNON – Cory Dean Murphy, age 52, passed away at 11:40 a.m., Tuesday, October 15, 2024, at Crossroads Hospital Emergency Room, Mt. Vernon, Illinois.
Cory, a resident of Mt. Vernon, IL., was born December 20, 1971, in Mt. Vernon, IL. He was a son of Elvis Ray Murphy, Jr. and Bonita Faye Murphy.
Cory was a truck driver for Republic Trash Service and Carter Trucking for several years. He attended Delafield Baptist Church, loved the outdoors, hunting, fishing as well as playing golf in his spare time.
Cory was a Corporal E4 in the United States Army.
Survivors include his brothers, Troy Murphy and wife Mandi, Norris City, IL., and Jason Murphy and wife Susannah, McLeansboro, IL; uncles, Bernard Murphy and wife Charlene, Galatia, IL. and Paul Thomas and wife Julie, Flora, IL.; and aunts, Judy Peters and husband, Lavern, of Dahlgren, IL., Patricia Page and husband, Gordon, of Dahlgren, and Linda Shaw and husband, Gary, of McLeansboro, also survive. Several nieces, nephews and cousins survive including nephew, Zarek Murphy; and niece, Ari Murphy.
Cory was preceded in death by his parents, Bonnie and Elvis Ray Murphy, Jr.; grandparents, Leah and Elvis Ray Murphy Sr.; and grandmother, Martha Kirsch. Also, preceding Cory in death were his beloved dogs, Sadie and Jax.
There will be a graveside service conducted by pastor Jason Moore, at 11:30 a.m., Saturday, October 19, 2024, at I.O.O.F. Cemetery, Dahlgren, IL. Military Honors will be accorded by the Military Honor Guard, Marion, Il. and American Legion Post 106, McLeansboro, IL.
In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that memorials be made to the family to help with expenses.
