MT. VERNON (WMIX) – A 39-year-old Mt. Vernon man was arrested Friday afternoon when members of the Mt. Vernon Police Department/Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department Narcotics Division and Mt. Vernon Police Detectives Division served a knock and announce search warrant at 1015 South 7th Street in Mt. Vernon.
According to the Mt. Vernon Police Department, Oscar J. Montgomery was on federal parole at the time of his Friday arrest that was the result of a search warrant executed after detectives determined controlled substances were being sold from his home.
During the search of the home, detectives located quantities of cocaine, packaging materials, and weighing scales. Montgomery was subsequently taken into custody and transported to the Jefferson County Jail for Possession with Intent to Deliver a Controlled Substance and Possession of a Controlled Substance. He was released.
A report documenting the arrest was forwarded to the United States Probation Office. As a result, a warrant for parole violation was issued.
On Tuesday, Jan. 16, an officer on patrol observed Montgomery driving a vehicle in the area of 9th and Perkins. The officer knew Montgomery was wanted on a federal warrant and initiated a traffic stop.
Montgomery was taken into custody without incident and transported to the Jefferson County Jail where he remains held with no bond.
