PADUCAH (WMIX) – As they continue to watch the local weather patterns, the National Weather Service is looking at not one, but two significant weather systems heading our way.
They predict the first system to impact our area Friday night into Saturday. It looks to be similar to the last system that rolled through our area, with a rain/snow mix.
There’s about 10 to 20 percent chance of some accumulating snow in parts of southern Illinois, but the National Weather Service is pretty confident things will remain too warm for any impact.
The second system moving into our area is one they’re regarding with some concern.
Potentially moving into the area Monday night, into Tuesday, wind will be the most likely hazard with this system.
Wind gusts of 40 to 50 mph are along the lines of what they’re expecting right now.
The overall strength of the storm as modeled right now though is similar to the March 3, 2023, storm that produced numerous gusts over 60 mph, so forecasters are going to watch it closely. There is a chance for accumulating snow with this system as well.
