WHITTINGTON – A burglary investigation is underway in Franklin County.

According to Sheriff Kyle Bacon, deputies responded to Mac’s Spirits and More on Illinois 37 south of Whittington around 3:15 a.m. Tuesday and found that someone had forced their way inside. A gaming machine was damaged. An undetermined amount of cash was stolen.

Surveillance video showed a suspect entering the store and damaging the gaming machine with a small sledgehammer. The suspect was wearing a dark-colored hoodie and a dark mask to hide his face.

The suspect fled in a red 2012 Ford F-150 pickup truck that was reported stolen from a West Frankfort auto shop. Sheriff’s detectives responded to that location and confirmed a burglary had taken place there. The suspect and the stolen vehicle have not been found at this time.
