HERRIN – A parolee on mandatory supervised release from the Illinois Department of Corrections was recently cited for possessing meth in Herrin.
According to the Williamson County Sheriff’s Office, deputies saw a man and a woman riding bicycles near the intersection of Stotlar and North 20th streets late Christmas night. Deputies made contact with them and identified the man as Samuel J. Garten.
Deputies searched Garten and found a clear plastic bag containing a crystal-like substance. It field tested positive for meth. Garten was then taken into custody and cited for Possession of Methamphetamine. He was booked into the Williamson County Jail. An IDOC warrant was issued revoking his parole status.
The woman with Garten gave deputies permission to be searched. No contraband was found. She was released from the scene.
