CARBONDALE – A Mt. Vernon man is facing weapons charges after Carbondale Police saw a handgun in plain view in a parked vehicle at a local business while on foot patrol in the 700 block of East Grand Sunday.

Police tried to arrest 20-year-old Albert Thomas Jr., who was associated with the vehicle, but fled. He was quickly caught and found to be in possession of a second firearm when he was arrested. One of the recovered firearms was reported stolen out of Missouri.

Thomas was arrested and charged with Unlawful Use of Weapons, Aggravated Unlawful Use of Weapons, Possession of a Stolen Firearm and Resisting/Obstructing Police.

Thomas was booked into the Jackson County Jail pending a detention hearing.
