BROWNSVILLE – The White County Sheriff’s Office arrested a Carmi man for Domestic Battery after responding to a domestic incident in the 1100 block of County Road 700 East in Brownsville around 8:16 a.m. Monday.

White County Sheriff Jordan Weiss says he and a responding officer went to the scene for an active physical domestic incident involving a baseball bat. The sheriff spoke with 23-year-old Collin Ingram of Carmi and the responding officer spoke with the victim, 19-year-old Jamie Collins of Ridgway.

According to the sheriff’s report, Ingram and Collins were arguing and Ingram got close to Collins’ face and spit in her face. Ingram grabbed Collins’ throat and pushed her up against a wall. Collins then grabbed a baseball bat to defend herself.

The responding officer saw red marks on Collins’ neck and throat area and her chest. The officer asked Collins if she wanted to sign a complaint against Ingram. Collins did not answer the question directly, but said she wanted Ingram to leave. The officer told Collins he would speak with Ingram.

Ingram said he and Collins were arguing over a remote that was broken. That’s when the domestic incident began. A witness staying at the home with Ingram and Collins called police about the incident. The witness said he was in his bedroom and woke up to yelling and arguing and saw what happened between Ingram and Collins. The witness tried to break them up and Ingram got angry with the witness once he found out police were called to the home.

Ingram was placed under arrest for Domestic Battery and taken to the White County Jail.
