METROPOLIS – A Golconda man was recently lodged in the Massac County Detention Center without bond on charges of Possession of a Weapon by a Felon and Residential Burglary after Massac County Sheriff’s deputies were called to the area of Mt. Mission Road and Rocky Branch Road for a man acting suspicious.

According to the Massac County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to the scene shortly after 8 a.m. on Thursday, March 21.

The sheriff’s office says when a deputy located the man, he fled on foot. Deputies began searching the area for the man. Around noon deputies located the man trying to leave the area. The man was identified as 34-year-old Jason A. Francis of Golconda. Deputies located a handgun and ammunition. Francis was taken into custody for Possession of a Weapon by a Felon.

The same evening deputies responded to a complaint of a burglary in the same area where Francis had originally been spotted. It was reported that a home had been entered and numerous items had been removed from the home. Deputies were able to determine that the handgun located when Francis was taken into custody had been removed from the home. Deputies were also able to determine that clothes Francis was wearing when he was taken into custody had been removed from the home. Numerous other items that Francis had were also determined to have been removed from the home.
