FRANKLIN COUNTY – Carl R. Trusty, 88, passed away at 3:39 p.m. on Wednesday, January 3, 2024 at Mt. Vernon Healthcare.

Carl was born June 7, 1935, to Tiley and Connie Trusty in West Frankfort, Illinois. He married Betty J. Sullivan on September 14, 1956. They shared 45 years together. Betty passed away on July 18, 2001. Carl later married Shirley J. Serles and they resided in Zeigler, Illinois. Carl proudly served his country in the US Navy for 22 years. He served on several ships: USS Tausig, USS Quopaw, USS Braine, USS Hornet, USS Haley Powell, and the USS Saratoga. He then was a recruit company commander at Great Lakes, Illinois.

Survivors include a son Terry R. Trusty and wife Tammy of Zeigler; daughter Sherry Trusty of Zeigler, Illinois; five grandchildren Tenah and husband Jason of Carterville, Illinois, Heather Trusty of West Frankfort, Beth Trusty of Cleborn, Brandi Simpkins of West Frankfort, Billee and Robert Leithliter of Eldorado; eight great-grandchildren Caylah, Macey, Elijah, Libby, Gavin, Ricky Joe, Ellie, and Kal.

He was preceded in death by his parents and wife Betty.

Services will be held on Tuesday, January 9, 2023, at 11 a.m. at Union Funeral Home in West Frankfort with Terry Trusty officiating. Military rites will be accorded by the Navy Honor Guard and the American Legions of Orient and Zeigler.

Visitation will be held from 9 to 11 a.m. prior to the service.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society and will be accepted at the funeral home.
