METROPOLIS – The following information was released by the Metropolis Police Department on Monday, September 25, 2023.

September 18, 2023
Metropolis officers were called to Casey’s General Store in reference to a domestic disturbance. Upon arrival, officers met with the victim. The victim advised she was attacked by her boyfriend, Christopher E. Gibbs, 32, of Metropolis. The victim had been punched, kicked and scratched by Gibbs. She further stated Gibbs also committed sexual abuse to her. Gibbs also stole her phone. The victim was treated at Massac Memorial Hospital. Officers located Gibbs at a residence in the 500 block of Ophia. Gibbs was arrested and charged with Aggravated Domestic Battery, Criminal Sexual Abuse, theft and interfering with reporting domestic violence. Gibbs was lodged in the Massac County Detention Center.

September 20, 2023
Metropolis officers were called to the emergency room of Massac Memorial Hospital. The staff was dealing with a patient who was brought in by ambulance for an overdose and had become combative. Upon arrival, Officers heard Jerry L. Scott, 42, of Metropolis threatening staff. He then threatened to punch a female paramedic who was attempting to assist him. As officers approached the room, Scott got out of the bed and became combative to the officers. One of the officers was kicked in the wrist as they tried to subdue him. Once Scott was discharged from the hospital, he was arrested for Aggravated Battery and lodged in the Massac County Detention Center.

September 23, 2023
A Metropolis officer observed a Gray Honda Accord turn onto Catherine from 7th St. The officer recognized the driver, Austin C. Burnham, 29, of Metropolis. The officer was aware that Burnham had a revoked driver’s license and was wanted on a warrant. The warrant was issued by Massac County for FTA-Criminal Damage to Property. As the officer was turning around, The Honda fled at a high rate of speed. At 6th and Ophia, Burnham fled on foot leaving the Honda in the roadway. Officers searched the area. Officers went to the parent’s home and was given permission to search. Burnham was found hiding inside the residence. Burham was charged with the warrant, driving while license revoked, resisting/obstructing arrest and violation of an order of protection. Burham was lodged in the Massac County Detention Center.

Darrell A. McCoy, 60, of Metropolis was arrested in the 700 block of Broadway. McCoy was wanted on a warrant. The warrant was issued by Massac County for Criminal Trespass to Property. McCoy was lodged in the Massac County Detention Center.

A 5:07 a.m., A Metropolis Officer officer observed a silver, Dodge Jouney proceeding southbound on Ferry Street with no headlights on. A traffic stop was conducted and a compute check revealed that the driver, Casey A. Schockey, 46, of Metropolis had a suspended driver’s license. He could not provide proof of insurance. Schockey was charged with driving while license suspended, operation of an uninsured motor vehicle and failure to use headlights when required. He was released on a notice to appear.

While on patrol, A Metropolis officer was driving in the alley between 6th and 3rd streets. The officer observed Robert L. Little, 43, of Metropolis in a backyard of a residence. The officer was aware that Little was wanted on warrants. The warrants were issued by Massac County for possession of Methamphetamine and Theft. When Little observed the officer, he fled on foot, dropping his backpack. Little was captured near 3rd and Cherry Street. A search of the backpack found a red bag containing drug paraphernalia as well as a clear baggie containing a substance which tested positive for Methamphetamine and Fentanyl. In addition to the warrants, Little was charged with Possession of Methamphetamine/Fentanyl and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was also charged with resisting/obstructing arrest. Little was lodged in the Massac County Detention Center.

While clearing from the previous foot chase and arrest, a Metropolis officer observed a black Chevrolet S-10 pickup truck parked behind a residence in the 1100 block of E. 3rd St. The Sergeant was aware of an open case involving the theft of a black S-10. A check of the VIN confirmed that this was in fact, the stolen truck. Christopher A Harris, 44, of Metropolis was arrested and charged with possession of a stolen vehicle. Harris was lodged in the Massac County Detention Center.
