BENTON – A body found last week in rural Franklin County has been identified as a man who was reported as missing in January.

According to the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office, the body of Michael Scott Williams was found Wednesday outside Buckner. He was identified after an autopsy Sunday morning.

Williams’ body showed no signs of foul play. Police are now awaiting toxicology results.

Williams’ body was found with a limited amount of cold weather wear, but there are questions surrounding how he ended up near Mine Pond without appropriate clothing.

Williams went missing Jan. 24 near Mine Pond in Buckner which sparked a days long search.

A month later Williams’ family reached out to the Missing Person’s Awareness Network and local media outlets in hopes of gaining additional information.
