MCLEANSBORO – Leo Joseph Aydt, age 88 and a resident of McLeansboro, IL, passed away Saturday, March 11, 2023 at Deaconess Gateway Hospital in Newburgh, IN.

Visitation will be held 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, March 16, 2023 at Harre Funeral Home in McLeansboro, IL. A prayer service will be held at 5 p.m. The funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, March 17 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Piopolis, IL with Monsignor Joseph Lawler, Father Vincent Obi and Father Slawomir Ptak officiating the services. Burial will be in St. John The Baptist Catholic Cemetery, Piopolis, IL

Leo was born October 2, 1934 in Hamilton County, IL to Charles Theodore Aydt and Katherine Christine (Rubenacker) Aydt. He married Patricia Ann Biggerstaff on May 27, 1957 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Enfield, IL. Leo was employed by Wabash Valley FS and was a retired plant manager. He attended St. John Baptist Catholic Church, Piopolis, IL; St. Polycarp Catholic Church, Carmi, IL; St. Clements Catholic Church, McLeansboro, IL and St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Enfield, IL. Leo attended Piopolis Grade School and Piopolis High School. He was Parish Council President, C.K.L.I. President, member of the music groups Hillbilly Buddies, Country Kin, Hamilton County Pickers, Leisure Acres Park Boys and a member of People’s 50 and Banterra Club 50.

Survivors include his wife Patricia (Patsy) Aydt, McLeansboro, IL; daughter Marsha Richards, Dahlgren, IL; two grandsons Christopher Alan Richards (wife Danielle), McLeansboro, IL; Corey Austin Richards Ph.D., Philadelphia, PA; one granddaughter Caitlyn Ann Richards (fiancé Mathew White), Dahlgren, IL; three great grandchildren Bexley Nicole, Boone Noel and Landri Sue Richards; brother-in-law Jr. Biggerstaff and wife Sharon, McLeansboro, IL; sister-in-law Mary Ann Aydt, McLeansboro, IL; countless friends and acquaintances and many nieces and nephews.

Preceding Leo in death were his parents Charles T. and Katie (Rubenacker) Aydt; a sister Sr. Agnes Therese Aydt S.S.N.D.; brothers Alfred and Robert Aydt.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to the St. John Baptist Catholic Cemetery Fund or the National CMV Foundation.
