Carbondale, SIUC Officials Researching Gun Violence in City

CARBONDALE – The City of Carbondale officials have asked SIU Carbondale to conduct research to understand the nature of gun violence happening in the city and to study the drivers or conditions that facilitate the gun violence in efforts to improve safety.

Officials said in a press release “residents’ knowledge of and experience with gun violence is an important part of that understanding. So, the city is asking all adult residents in Carbondale to please take a brief online survey to share your experiences and opinions.”

The survey will take approximately 8-10 minutes to complete, found here.

The survey is being independently conducted by Southern Illinois University at the request of the Carbondale City Council. Officials said responses are anonymous and the city will not collect your name or address, and only summary statistics will be included in a report to the council. Participation is voluntary.
