Motorcycles, Semi Involved in Williamson County Crash

WILLIAMSON COUNTY – Two motorcycles and a semi were involved in a crash Friday afternoon on I-57 in Williamson County.

According to Illinois State Police, the crash happened around 1:45 p.m. on southbound I-57 at milepost 62. ISP says a 2014 Harley Davidson motorcycle being driven by 45-year-old Torey Phelps of Frankfort, Ill. was southbound in the far-left lane of three lanes. A 2007 Peterbilt Truck-Tractor Semi-Trailer Combination being driven by 57-year-old Steven Hall of East Prairie, Mo. was traveling south in the middle lane. A 2015 Harley Davidson motorcycle being driven by 44-year-old Charles Kemp of Frankfort, IL, was driving south in the far-right lane. 

Phelps changed lanes and pulled directly in front of Hall’s semi, causing Hall to swerve right. Hall’s semi struck the side of Kemp’s motorcycle and the rear of Phelps’ motorcycle.

Kemp was taken by ambulance to an area hospital with minor injuries. Phelps and Hall reported no injuries.

ISP said the crash is still under investigation.
