Pritzker Signs New Laws Addressing Teacher Shortage

(IOCI RADIO) – Gov. J.B. Pritzker signed a package of new laws to further address the teacher shortage in Illinois.

Raising the minimum salary and providing more support to teachers has helped attract new people to the field, but more “must be done,” the governor said.

Another new law will let education student almost done with their college classes work as substitute teachers, giving them valuable experience and filling the need for substitutes, he said.

Currently, substitute teachers must have a bachelor’s degree.
