New Bill to Make Organized Retail Crime a Felony

(IOCI RADIO) – New legislation would crack down on gangs stealing from stores in Illinois.

The measure would make organized retail crime a felony offense, targeting the sophisticated robberies that have become more prevalent. It also would give prosecutors more authority to “go after these criminals,” Sen. John Curran of Downer’s Grove said.

The bill has bipartisan support as well as backing from the Illinois Attorney General’s office and Retail Merchant’s Association.
