Two-Year I-24 Construction Project Begins in Johnson County

JOHNSON COUNTY – The Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) said a two-year construction project on I-24 in Johnson County begins Monday, weather permitting.

According to IDOT, traffic will be reduced to one lane as bridge repairs will begin on several structures in each direction of I-24 from the structures over U.S. 45 at mile post 14 to the Massac County line at mile post 24 with hot mix asphalt resurfacing.

All bridge work must be completed by Nov. 22 of this year with the entire project completed by Nov. 15, 2023.

Officials said drivers should be aware of the 14’-3” width restriction, reduce speed, be alert for equipment and workers and use extreme caution while traveling through all work zones. To avoid any delays, drivers are encouraged to seek another route. Emergency vehicles will be allowed through the work zone as quickly as possible.
