Legislation to Ban Non-Disclosures in Illinois Economic Deals

(The Center Square) – Legislation is being introduced in Springfield that would ban non-disclosure agreements in economic development deals.

Supporters said the agreements help facilitate government deals, including the identity of the business receiving taxpayer support, secret from the public, something Good-Jobs-First executive director Greg Leroy said excludes the taxpayer from the process.

John Mozena, president of the Center for Economic Accountability said transparency will allow elected officials to learn if there is a bad business deal being negotiated.

Mozena added that hedge fund managers and bank loan offices wouldn’t invest without knowing who was getting the money and taxpayers deserve the same treatment.
