Search Continues for Second Suspect in Zeigler Assault

ZEIGLER – Zeigler Police said they’re still searching for the second suspect allegedly involved in an early Sunday morning assault on Beaumont Street in Zeigler.

Zeigler Police Chief Ben Burkhamer said a warrant for aggravated battery has been issued for the second suspect identified as Seth Murphy from the Frankfort/Thompsonville area.

The victim told police there were two suspects in the home and a woman and child were possibly barricaded inside. Police requested backup from nearby agencies and the first suspect, Kyle Murohy of Zeigler, was taken into custody at the scene. The victim was airlifted due to severe lacerations on his back.

Kyle is currently being held in the Franklin County Jail in Benton with bond set at $75,000. Kyle and Seth are brothers according to Burkhamer.

Police said they have gathered enough evidence in the case to move forward. Anyone with information is asked to contact Zeigler Police.
