CARBONDALE – To show appreciation for first responders and commemorate the 20th anniversary of the September 11 terror attacks, the City of Carbondale will host a Patriot Day Ceremony on Saturday at 9 a.m.
The brief ceremony will be held at the flagpole in front of Altgeld Hall on the Southern Illinois University Carbondale campus and will feature a guest speaker, flag-lowering service, Honor Guard, and prayer.
The Patriot Day Ceremony will conclude with a moment of silence and the ringing of a bell at 9:28 a.m., the local time the North Tower collapsed in New York City.
There will be a limited number of chairs available during the ceremony. Officials encourage attendees to bring their own chair and socially distance during the event.
