HUD Awards $134M for Public Housing Authorities in Southern Illinois

CHICAGO – Several southern Illinois housing authorities are among 93 across Illinois to receive parts of $134 million in funding to make capital investments in their public housing units, according to a statement released Tuesday by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Developments (HUD).

HUD said the funding is part of more than $2.7 billion in funding released to near 2,900 public housing authorities in all 50 states along with the District of Columbia, Guam, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.

Below are the regional housing authorities to receive funding with amounts:

  • Alexander County Housing Authority – $1,235,089
  • Hamilton County Housing Authority – $166,102
  • Housing Authority – County of Saline – $1,239,273
  • Housing Authority of Gallatin County – $226,158
  • Housing Authority of Jefferson County – $844,722
  • Housing Authority of Johnson County – $167,787
  • Housing Authority of Pope County – $256,545
  • Housing Authority of Pulaski County – $285,943
  • Housing Authority of the City of Marion, Illinois – $860,238
  • Housing Authority of the County of Franklin – $1,819,713
  • Housing Authority of the County of Hardin – $297,247
  • Housing Authority of the County of Jackson, IL. – $2,114,021
  • Housing Authority of the County of Union – $879,650
  • Housing Authority of The County of Wayne, Illinois – $433,869
  • Housing Authority of the County of Williamson – $1,818,365
  • Massac County Housing Authority – $489,748
  • Perry County Housing Authority – $835,540
  • White County Housing Authority – $226,077

The grants are provided through HUD’s Capital Fund Program, which offers annual funding to all public housing authorities to build, renovate, and/or modernize the public housing in their communities. Housing authorities can use the funding to complete large-scale improvements such as replacing roofs or making energy-efficient upgrades to heating system and installing water conservation measures.
