Mt. Vernon Man Arrested After Two Hospitalized With Gunshot Wounds

MT. VERNON – Mt. Vernon police are investigating a shooting incident in the 2800 block of College Wednesday that sent two people to the hospital with gunshot wounds.

Officers reportedly took 44-year-old Alvin Smallwood of Mt. Vernon into custody shortly after arriving on scene.

A call regarding the shooting was received around 4:15 p.m., when a female gunshot victim was transported to the Crossroads Hospital emergency room before being taken to another hospital for treatment.

While police investigated the shooting, a call came from SSM Good Samaritan Hospital that a male gunshot victim was brought into their emergency room. Officers remained on the scene and continued to investigate.

Smallwood was charged with aggravated battery via the discharge of a firearm, aggravated discharge of a firearm into an occupied vehicle, armed violence via the discharge of a weapon, and felony possession or use of a weapon/firearm.
