Mt. Vernon City Council Approves Bid Seeking for New USPS Building

MT. VERNON – The Mt. Vernon City Council unanimously approved and gave permission for the City Manager to seek bids on the construction of the new United States Post Office (USPS) building.

City Manager Mary Ellen Bechtel said it was “a team effort to get where they are today,” but gave a lot of praise to Assistant City Manager Nathan McKenna.

The new post office will be built at the corner of 10th and Jordan in downtown Mt. Vernon.

In 2019, the city reached an agreement with Milano Metals and Recycling to redevelop the Park Plaza building, where the current post office resides. The land will become a trans-loading rail facility.
