Madigan cancels House school funding session, citing “progress”

In a sign that there may be hope on the horizon for a school funding bill, Illinois House Speaker Mike Madigan has canceled today’s House session, and planned override of Governor Rauner’s school funding measure veto. Madigan says he’s cancelled today’s session “in light of progress” made during five hours worth of meetings with lawmakers yesterday about school funding reform. Madigan did not specify what sort of progress was made. State leaders from both parties will meet again tomorrow in Chicago. Madigan warned that he’ll try again for an override if there’s no agreement by the end of the week.
