Illinois insurance companies may have to pay millions of dollars in unpaid life insurance benefits. A measure backed by the Illinois Treasurer would require companies to examine the past 20 years of their records. The proposed legislation would help ensure that beneficiaries of life insurance policies receive the money owed to them. So far $500 million in unpaid life insurance benefits has been found.
