The Benton Police Department is still working to raise the money needed to create a K9 unit.  Police Chief Kyle Melvin says in total profits the department is at $5,000 out of its $30,000 goal. More fundraisers are planned such as a gun rifle but they are currently on hold while police raise money for the Shop with a Cop program. Public Health and Safety Commissioner Don Storey says he wants to resume fundraising after the holidays and he hopes to have the K9 unit up and running by May or June of next year.
