The SIU Carbondale Board of Trustees is considering a $257 million housing construction plan at its December 8th meeting. If the plan is approved Neely, Schneider, and Mae Smith halls, otherwise known as the towers, would be torn down. They would be replaced with new residence halls over the next decade. Initial costs for construction would be covered by selling bonds to investors.
