The Lafarge Cement Plant in Joppa will be shutting down part of its plant due to weak demand. The company is estimating around 40 employees will be laid off. A definite number has not been released but the lay offs will include both full-time and part-time. A representative with Lafarge told WSIL TV that the company will be closing two kilns and the layoffs will take place in December.
