City Leaders Consider New Laws to Hold Landlords Accountable for Properties

City leaders is Carbondale are discussing new rules that would hold landlords more accountable for what happens at the properties they own. Under the ordinance landlords could face large fines if they do not control parties that their tenants decide to host. Carbondale’s Mayor says that if the owner of a housing unit is cited three times in a year they could face a fine of more than $1,000 along with a hearing before city attorney’s. Citations would be issued for parties with underage drinking, fights, damages to property, or people blocking traffic.
