The Herrin Police Department is working to raise funds for a K-9 unit. Officers believe a community the size of Herrin needs a canine program. $30-40,000 dollars has been budgeted for the dog, officer training, a kennel, and other start up costs. A website called Invest in Herrin’s Future has been started where partnerships to help with the initial cost and donations can be made. To learn more about the program or to make a donation you can visit www.investinherrin.org.
