First responders in Benton will soon receive some needed upgrades to better serve the community. On Wednesday night city leaders approved plans to build a new police station at the old scout cabin on West Washington Street. It would cost one and a half million dollars to repair the current police station building that is not up to code. Officials also approved the purchase of an aerial ladder truck for the fire department. Benton’s fire chief will be checking out a used truck and will look at multiple options before making a final decision. The chief will be flying to Texas in two weeks to view the used truck and construction on the new police station is expected to begin in the next few months.
