Molly’s law has now been signed after Governor Bruce Rauner and Representative Terri Bryant met with Molly Young supporters in Carbondale. Molly’s law will change the statute of limitations to file a wrongful death lawsuit from two to five years. It also changes the current fine for public agencies that violate court orders to release information under the freedom of information act. The law is named after SIU student Molly Young who was found dead inside a Carbondale apartment in 2012. Governor Rauner signed the new law and met with supporters Tuesday afternoon after touring the SIU Transportation Education Center where the meeting was held.
