We’ll soon be seeing some big changes for the Southern Illinois Airport in Jackson County. Over the next five years managers have planned four major projects that will change the appearance of the airport and improve traffic in the area. More than $10 million will be going into a new road system, plans for a new hanger, and the development of a brand new terminal. Managers hope to provide more jobs in the area and grow the number of SIU students coming to the airport, which is currently around 700 students each week. The first phase of roadwork is expected to begin this fall and end by June 2017.
