Morthland to build a new hospital in Benton

Morthland College Health Services President Dr. Tim Morthland announced Tuesday his intentions to build a 25 to 40 bed hospital with an emergency room and surgical center on a 10-acre site off I-57 near the Benton Airport. Morthland says the campus would also include clinic space for local providers. Morthland says millions of federal dollars in Medicare and Medicaid money are traveling outside Franklin County with the county’s residents who are forced to go somewhere else for medical care. He says that money belongs in Franklin County and noted that there is an ethical mandate in his view to bring a solution to the problem. He says Franklin Hospital in Benton is not meeting the healthcare needs of residents, so that has largely in part prompted this new hospital project. Morthland hopes to break ground on the project as early as next fall.
