Steeleville man seriously injured after wreck on I-57

A Steeleville man was seriously injured in a one-vehicle crash on I-57 near the Johnston City exit early this morning. Illinois State Police say the 20-year-old man, whose name was not being released, was driving southbound on I-57 around 12:40 when his pickup truck drifted off the roadway, went down an embankment and struck a tree head on. The man was taken to Heartland Regional Medical Center in Marion and then airlifted to St. Louis with major injuries. He was charged with improper lane usage and fatigued driving. It’s not known if he was wearing a seat belt.
