Carbondale — A Carbondale man is behind bars on charges of forgery in relation to a recent uptick of counterfeit bills circulating the area. According to a release from the Carbondale Police Department, officers responded to a business in the 300 block of East Walnut Street last Friday for a forgery complaint. An investigation revealed that Kenneth Howder had attempted to pay for merchandise with counterfeit bills. Further investigating revealed that Howder was in possession of counterfeit currency, counterfeit currency making materials and a controlled substance. Howder was arrested without incident and charged with the offenses mentioned. He was lodged in the Jackson County Jail.
