Pope Co. — The nearly week-long manhunt in Pope County is over after a shootout that left one SWAT member injured and killed Dracy Pendleton. According to a release from the Illinois State Police, Pendleton was sighted at just after midnight yesterday running south into the woods from near the Sulphur Springs Church Cemetery outfitted with what looked to be a rifle and a bandolier. Authorities lost sight of Pendleton there but set up a perimeter and were able to track him to an abandoned house. State Police and FBI SWAT members approached the home at around 5 in the morning when Pendleton opened fire. After the firefight authorities were able to confirm that Pendleton had been fatally wounded. A SWAT Officer was also injured but is expected to make a full recovery. An investigation is ongoing.
