SIU Leaders Announce Plans to Improve Racial Climate

Carbondale — Southern Illinois University is planning on taking steps to improve the racial climate on campus. Interim Chancellor Brad Colwell laid out a number of initiatives that he hopes create a respectful and positive environment free from racism. Colwell says that “it’s clear there is much work to do to build understanding and respect between administrators, students, faculty and staff.” The announcement comes in the wake of Monday’s student protests of racial discrimination on campus.
