SIU Students Protest Amid Recent Racial Tension Among Students

Carbondale — More than 200 SIU Students gathered yesterday in protest of recent issues including racism on campus as well as funding issues brought about by the state budget impasse. The students, clad in shirts that read “NoRacism” marched from the center of the campus, through the Chancellor’s Office and the Morris Library before making their way onto the streets near campus. The protest remained peaceful with no arrests reported. SIU Spokeswoman Rae Goldsmith says that the university is “listening.”
