SIU Student Arrested in Connection to Attempted Bank Robbery

Carbondale — An SIU student is behind bars in connection with an attempted bank robbery that happened yesterday afternoon. According to a release from the Carbondale Police Department, officers were called to the Regions Bank on the 600 block of East Main Street to a robbery in progress. After an investigation, officers learned that a suspect had entered the bank and demanded money before leaving without any. Officers searched the area and found a suspect matching the description and placed him under arrest. He is being identified as Alex Hofmaier of Carbondale. He is being held in the Jackson County Jail on charges of robbery. An investigation is ongoing.
