Benton — State Senator Gary Forby of Benton is pushing a measure that would allow the SIU Board of Trustees to sell, lease and transfer surplus real estate to provide more money for scholarships. A release from Senator Forby states that “SIU is one of southern Illinois’ greatest assets” and that when provided with the chance to help the university and its students he would do so. The measure passed through the Senate yesterday. It now heads to the House for consideration.
