Kentucky Man Dead After Police Chase and Shootout in Franklin Co.

Franklin Co. – A Kentucky man is dead after a shootout with Franklin County authorities following a police chase. According to Lt. Michael Alvey of the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office, officers were called to a reported residential burglary in progress. Witnesses saw the suspect, later identified as Joshua Moreno of Bowling Greek, KY, flee in a stolen vehicle and Franklin County Authorities gave pursuit. As Moreno was fleeing he reportedly struck a deputy’s vehicle and then fired multiple shots from the vehicle before exiting onto interstate 57. There, his vehicle became disabled, but he was able to hijack another and fled again before eventually stopping near the skating rink in Benton where another shootout ensued. Moreno was fatally wounded in the shootout. The incident remains under investigation. No other injuries are being reported.
