“Molly’s Law” Passes Special Committee; Heads to Full House

Springfield — A bill named for Molly Young that would increase the statute of limitations for filing a wrongful death lawsuit is receiving unanimous support from a special house committee. According to a release from State Representative Terri Bryant of Murphysboro, who sponsored the bill, HB 6083, commonly called Molly’s Law, will extend the statute of limitations for wrongful death cases from 2-years to 5-years. The bill also states that public bodies that willfully and intentionally fail to comply with Court orders to release information through FOIA can be penalized up to $10,000 for each occurrence. The bill now heads to the full House for consideration.
