Gov. Rauner Sends Memo to State Employees; Promises to Fight For Continued Pay Despite Budget Impasse

Springfield — Responding to questions from state employees, Republican Gov. Bruce Rauner issued a memo Thursday stating that despite a ruling last week denying their Union back pay, his administration will fight to ensure that state employees are fully paid on time. The questions come after the Illinois Supreme Court vacated a previous decision to award AFSCME $63 million dollars in back pay. Rauner notes the Attorney General’s Office argued during the 2007 budget impasse, and a state court agreed, that federal laws mandate the continuation of state pay in the absence of a budget.
