New Education Spending Bill for Fiscal Year 2017 Being Pushed in Senate

Springfield — While a state budget may not yet be in place, it’s not stopping the senate from trying to approve a spending package for the upcoming fiscal year. The Senate is voting on a plan that would allot 3.9 billion dollars to universities and colleges, as well as funding the state MAP grant program. Governor Bruce Rauner has said that if a budget is agreed upon the first thing that would be funded would be higher education, and has turned down all attempted spending plans sent to him thus far.
