Southern Illinois Winery Bets on Gambling Expansion

Carterville (AP) — A southern Illinois winery that wants to expand into a destination resort is betting on a state gambling expansion to help fulfill its vision. The (Carbondale) Southern Illinoisan reports that Walker’s Bluff in Carterville hopes to build a 300-room hotel, indoor water park and conference center at the winery. Owner Cynde Bunch says that vision includes a gambling license. A proposal to add casinos in Chicago’s south suburbs as well as smaller gambling venues in southern Illinois failed to gain much traction in the 2015 legislative session.
