Carbondale “Polar Bear” Celebration Yields Over 100 Citations

Carbondale — More than 100 citations were issued as part of this past weekend’s “Polar Bear” celebration in Carbondale. According to a release from the Carbondale Police Department, officers issued 116 citations to 97 people during the annual, unsanctioned event with offenses ranging from lighter cases such as amplified noise and public urination to more dangerous offenses, including six cases of assault with a deadly weapon. Underage drinking was by far the most issued citation with 52 tickets issued. The release states that of the 97 individuals who were issued citations, 42 were current SIU students.
