Jesse White: 60-Million To Meet Real ID Requirements

Springfield — It could cost as much as 60-million-dollars for Illinois to meet the needs of the Real ID Act. Secretary of State Jesse White says cost is just one of the roadblocks to updating Illinois’ driver’s licenses to meet the federal requirements. Illinois has received two 1-year extensions to comply with federal requirements but the state was not awarded one for 2016. If the licenses fail to fall under requirements, they may not be able to be used as a form of identification at places such as airports or any federal buildings or military bases.
