Thanks to NME, we know that during a recent interview with Good Morning America, director J.J. Abrams said he’s hoping that Star Wars: The Force Awakens attracts a female audience. “Star Wars was always a boys’ thing, and a movie that dads could take their sons to. And although that is still very much the case, I was really hoping this could be a movie that mothers could take their daughters to as well.”
The film features several female characters, including Daisy Ridley as Rey, Lupita Nyong’o as Maz Kanata, Gwendoline Christie as Captain Phasma, and Carrie Fisher as Leia Organa.
Star Wars: The Force Awakes hits theaters December 18!
